A made-to-measure trip in history to the origins of Arén

Arén was a natural stopping point along several commercial routes and home to many merchants since the 8th century. This land is the natural boundary with the neighboring high-country area, accessible through the Sopeira gorge, which remained almost virgin until the 20th century. In the 8th century, the resistance against Muslim invasion was ignited in this area. Charlemagne, from France, called for help asking to join forces with the county of Ribagorza. An independent power that eventually would originate the Kingdom of Aragón. Since the 16th century, in the small village of Arén, Salvelinus’ lodge provides a place to eat and rest for merchants and pilgrims.

An independent spirit shines through as you explore the high plains and valleys around the 200-people village of Arén, as you cast in transparent waters, or raise a toast to the vibrant color and light of the Pyrenean wines.

Those who have visited Arén tell us all about it

In Eastern Pyrenees, the climate is warmer, the days sunnier, the landscape tamer than elsewhere in the mountains. The countryside around Arén is spectacular and densely networked with hiking trails. Historical sights, medieval towns, wineries, eateries, and some of the best fly fishing spots in the Pyrenees.

I must mention I would go back for the food and wine alone.

Best restaurant in the Pyrenees in the same family ownership for 300 years, very good accommodation acceptable to anyone with A.C., a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival as well as access to the Sauna. The "genuine article" !!!!!! (100%) as are the surroundings, Spain as she was and should be, children playing in the village square, locals sitting "en family" discussing what might or will happen as the sun sets - there can be no better.

To highlight we were treated as kings, dining was one of the most unique culinary experiences ever. Honestly, one of the best restaurants we've ever tried.

Good weather and excellent food in a first-class fishing lodge

There are tons of sights around the traditional Spanish village of Arén, the variety of fauna and flora and the breathtaking views will blow you away. From Arén you will have access to a large variety of easily accessible prolific waters, but if that is not enough, tasting the superb local cuisine in a 300-year-old restaurant will seal the deal.
